Fans Are Convinced Mariah Carey’s New Song ‘GTFO’ Is About James Packer Album

When Mariah Carey released her new song “GTFO” on September 13, fans of the songstress have been left wondering whether or not the song is about her former fiance James Packer. Just like what the title suggests, the song finds the New York-born singer taking aim at a former lover.

Sampled “Goodbye to a World” by Porter Robinson and produced by Nineteen85, the song features Mariah telling her ex-boyfriend to go away from her life and lamenting that her friends has tried to warn her not once, but twice. “How ’bout you take your tings and be on you merry way,” she sings delicately. “Fly out for the week, bye bye baby.”

Even though Mariah has said in a press release that the song “wasn’t so serious,” fans couldn’t help but speculate that the song might be about James, whom she was engaged to for 10 months in 2016. “ya fkn telling me Mariah Carey released a song and like… it’s a diss to JAMES. PACKER,” one fan wrote. Another noted that s/he liked the “shooting rhytm in the background” before assuming that “this song is a James Packer diss.”

Mariah hasn’t given her comment on the speculation.

“GTFO” is the first single off her forthcoming album. She will premiere a music video for the song on September 14 before unleashing another new track “With You” on October 5. Mariah previously told PEOPLE that her next album would feel “current,” but she insisted that she wasn’t trying to follow “anybody else’s trends.”

“My fans just want to hear me express myself and speak from the heart and sing from the heart,” she said. “Some of the record is lighthearted and fun, and some [songs] I really went deep in terms of the lyrical content. There’s a nice cross-section of things.”

The title and release date of the album remain unknown as of now. It will be a follow-up to her 2014 album “Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse”.
