Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) may star in his own version ofin Season 2.
has a new cover story on Netflix’s supernatural show, and today they shared new details on the plot and characters. We know the show itself is arriving on Halloween, and that’s also when the story begins — nearly a year after the events of Season 1, on Halloween in Hawkins, Indiana, with the guys dressing as Ghostbusters.
Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) is still seeing images from the Upside Down and dealing with PTSD, co-creator Matt Duffer told, while his mother Joyce (Winona Ryder) dates her old high school buddy Bob (Sean Astin) and tries to hold things together. Ross Duffer said Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) are “the most screwed-up” because they both lost someone — Nancy lost her BFF Barb and Mike lost his best girl Eleven. We know Eleven will be back, but perhaps Mike doesn’t.
Here’s where the new villain comes in, though. Matt Duffer said Season 2 will explore “different kinds of horror,” including the human kind. It was previously revealed that two siblings — brother Billy (Dacre Montgomery) and sister Max (Sadie Sink) would be arriving, and now we know Max bonds with the guys and becomes the crush of both Dustin and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin). However, Billy doesn’t make friends, and seems to be something of an enemy. Matt Duffer teased to: “Stephen King always has really great human villains. The evil in the real world is often as bad or worse than the supernatural evil, so we wanted to introduce a character like that.” There’s also a new guy running the lab, Dr. Owens (Paul Reiser); he’s described as “seemingly friendly,” but you can’t turn your back on those lab docs.
On a lighter note, we’re already looking forward to meeting Dustin’s new pet, described as “polliwog-like.” Matarazzo told EW, “It’s a little creature I get to bond with. It’s obviously not from this planet or this dimension.” Maybe not all the stuff creeping in from the Upside Down is bad?
for more, including a Chief Hopper update. Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) with vague teases, just promising more on her backstory and an “emotional transition.” that she’s still a big part of Season 2. And her hair looks fabulous.
