is moving from the big screen to the small screen.
TNT has officially ordered 10 episodes of the series based on Bong Joon Ho’s 2013 apocalyptic sci-fi film. The show will star Jennifer Connelly, “Hamilton” alum Daveed Diggs, Alison Wright (“The Americans”), and Robin Weigert (“Big Little Lies”).
Ho based his movie on a graphic novel by Jacques Lob. It was set in a future when climate change had transformed the world into a frozen tundra and the last remaining humans lived aboard a high-speed train traveling around the globe. The lower classes lived in grim conditions in the back of the train, while richer citizens enjoyed luxury in the front. Chris Evans played a man who ignites a rebellion, while Tilda Swinton was the eccentric aide to the train’s engineer.
“Science fiction is the perfect genre to examine issues of race, class, gender and natural resources with thought-provoking and exciting storytelling. Snowpiercer will explore those relevant issues while embarking on a wild, action-filled ride,” said TNT executive vice president for original programming Sarah Aubrey.
With the show set seven years after the ice age begins, it seems like the series will be a prequel to the movie.
TNT has yet to set a premiere date.
