Helena Bonham Carter Is Officially Joining ‘The Crown’ — and She’s ‘Terrified’ Album

Even with multiple Academy Award nominations to her name, Helena Bonham Carter worries about doing her job well.

The actress has officially been cast in “The Crown” in Season 3, as Netflix recently confirmed, and she admits to being more than a little nervous. Bonham Carter went so far as to say that she is “terrified” about joining the period drama series for two reasons.

“I’m not sure which I’m more terrified about — doing justice to the real Princess Margaret or following in the shoes of Vanessa Kirby‘s Princess Margaret,” the actress said, according to Variety. “The only thing I can guarantee is that I’ll be shorter [than Vanessa].”

As reports in January indicated, Bonham Carter is taking over the role of Princess Margaret, the younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II. Vanessa Kirby starred as the princess in Seasons 1 and 2, while Claire Foy played the young monarch. The two actresses, along with the other stars of the series, are ceding their roles to older actors as the show brings more recent British history to screen.

In Seasons 3 and 4, Bonham Carter will star alongside Olivia Colman (the queen) and Tobias Menzies (Prince Philip). They’ll aim to live up to the bar set by the young cast, which helped “The Crown” win the Golden Globe for Best Drama Series in 2016, among various other accolades. No wonder Bonham Carter is nervous.

“The Crown” Season 3 is scheduled to premiere in 2019.
