‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel Series Gets Pilot Order From HBO Album

How did it all begin on “Game of Thrones”? Fans may get to see the origins of the Westeros universe in a prequel series, which has received a pilot order from HBO.

The prequel comes from writer Jane Goldman and is one of five “Game of Thrones” projects being developed at HBO. Author George R.R. Martin wrote the story for the pilot along with Goldman (“Kingsman,” “X-Men: First Class). Goldman wrote the script and will serve as showrunner.

The official logline notes the pilot takes place “thousands of years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones'” and “chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend … it’s not the story we think we know.”

Of course, this is just a pilot; many pilots don’t make it to full series. But this is does bode well for Goldman’s show, which now is the leader among the various “Game of Thrones” spinoff projects in the works. The others are being shepherded by Carly Wray (“Mad Men”), Brian Helgeland (“Mystic River”) and Max Borenstein (“Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island”), and “Game of Thrones” co-executive producer Bryan Cogman.

And any of them could also receive a pilot order, so the “Game of Thrones”-verse could be packed soon.
